TAPASSISTTM Automatic Depth Control
In the past, using a tool support arm on tapping applications meant that the operator had to rely on bulky external switches or on torque control to regulate the tap depth of applications. While these systems work, they have some definite drawbacks which severely limit their effectiveness.

Externally mounted mechanical switches must be placed in such a way as to make contact with the work piece; on many applications the part's geometry does not easily lend itself to their use. In addition to this, if there is more than one tap depth on the applications, the switches must be manually adjusted for each new setting, wasting valuable process time.

Torque control can easily be affected by variables such as small changes in hole size, material density, lubricity, and RPM, resulting in tapped holes which are too shallow or too deep. This leads to defective parts or extensive rework causing delays and cost increases.

A new concept in secondary tapping applications, TAPASSISTTM uses the accuracy of a rotary encoder to allow the operator to tap every hole to the required depth. With no bulky external switch rods to set and no mechanical clutches to adjust, set up is as simple as entering the desired depth. TAPASSISTTM does all the rest.
